The cold wave swept through large parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province both plain and upper districts as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted cold and dry weather across most parts of the province.
As per the officials an increase in cold intensity is expected in upper districts and mountainous areas.
Fog is likely to prevail in Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, and Nowshera, while Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan may also experience foggy conditions.
In the KP plains, Peshawar noted a low of 1 degree Celsius and temperatures in Bannu also continued at 1 degree Celsius.
The Met Office said that citizens should take safety measures as cold weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
According to the officials’ the mercury in several upper areas have dropped lower freezing. The Temperature fell to minus 5 degrees Celsius in Dir, minus 2 degrees in Malam Jabba and Saidu Sharif, and minus 1 degree in Abbottabad and Chitral recorded 3 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, it was reported that a blanket of dense fog enveloped Islamabad, slashing visibility to near zero in several areas, slowing traffic to a crawl and prompting traffic authorities to issue safety advisories amid mounting concerns over public health and road safety.
In most of the parts of the capital visibility fell to less than five meters that plunging usually busy streets into an eerie stillness during the morning rush.
Traffic officers were deployed across major roads in the capital and intersections to manage bottlenecks and assist travellers.
The police patrolled the key locations including the Islamabad Expressway, Faizabad Checkpoint and other surrounding areas.
The city traffic moved at a snail’s pace on the roads as the visibility did not improve till 09 am. In the office goers faced difficulties while going to their destinations.
