Everyone is excited, especially Lahoris, as Basant is approaching. The Punjab government has announced public holidays on February 6 and 7 in Lahore to celebrate Basant. People are wondering whether the courts will remain open during Basant or not.
Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC), Justice Alia Neelum, confirmed that the courts will remain open on 6th and 7th February to deal with the legal matters of individuals.
There are public holidays on 6th and 7th February in Basant across Punjab, but LHC and other subordinate courts will remain open as per routine.
After the holiday notification by the Punjab government on Basant, the Lahore High Court administration asked Chief Justice LHC for the closure of the court, but Chief Justice Alia Neelum rejected the proposal sent by the administration.
According to the official sources, the routine hearing in the LHC and other district courts will be held as per routine across Punjab. The Lahore High Court Chief Justice directed judges, court staff, lawyers, and litigants to make their presence necessary on 6th and 7th February.
Justice Alia Neelum said that the legal proceeding in court will remain as per routine with no change, adding that this spirit shows the commitment of the judiciary with the citizen’s legal matter as the courts are open even on the public holidays.
The decision comes as authorities step up administrative planning for Basant, and courts have chosen to work independently of the provincial holiday notification to prevent delays in judicial cases.
