Shahid Afridi moves out of Karachi

Pakistan cricket’s legendary all-rounder and former captain Shahid Afridi has left Karachi and moved to Islamabad on a permanent basis leaving his fans wondering as to why he made such a decision.

Speaking exclusively to a local daily at his new residence in Islamabad, Shahid Afridi confirmed that he had moved from Karachi to Islamabad due to some personal reasons, however, he said that this decision was made after careful consideration and long deliberation.

Shahid Afridi said during the conversation that he wants to see Pakistan as a rapidly developing country, but the most basic and important factor to achieve this goal is continuity. He said that frequent changes in policies and instability in institutions are the biggest obstacles in the way of development.

The former captain said that Pakistan and Pakistan cricket gave him respect, status and recognition around the world, now he wishes that he can give something back to Pakistan cricket and the country through his experience and influence. He clarified that he has no intention of entering politics at present, nor is he going to become a part of any political party.

Shahid Afridi said that the government should complete its constitutional term and all important constitutional office bearers including the Chief Justice and the Army Chief should also be allowed to complete their respective constitutional terms. According to him, when state institutions complete their term, there is continuity in policies and as a result of this continuity, the fruits of development reach the common man.

He also revealed that in the past he was offered important government positions, but he always avoided such responsibilities. According to Shahid Afridi, mere formal positions do not attract him and he only wants to accept such responsibilities through which real and positive change can be brought.

Shahid Afridi further said that continuity in the democratic process, strong institutions and adherence to constitutional boundaries are the basis of the development of any country. He said that if the state institutions are stable, the policies will remain in place and the people will benefit directly.
