CTD arrests 49 suspected terrorists in Punjab operations

CTD conducted successful operations in Quetta

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 49 suspected terrorists, including an alleged agent of the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), during intelligence-based operations carried out across Punjab.

According to CTD officials, the week-long operations were conducted in multiple cities following reports of potential terrorist activity. During one such operation in Lahore, a suspected RAW agent identified as Mujtaba was taken into custody. Officials claimed that explosives, weapons, and maps of sensitive government installations were recovered from his possession.

Authorities said that explosives and materials used for making suicide jackets were also seized from other arrested suspects. Initial investigations suggest that the group was planning attacks at various locations to create fear and panic among the public.

CTD officials further revealed that a total of 6,131 combing operations were conducted across Punjab during the past month. As a result, 599 suspects were arrested, and 243,546 individuals were questioned as part of security screening measures.

The operations were carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad. In view of ongoing security threats, the CTD has decided to further intensify intelligence-based operations across the province to prevent potential acts of terrorism.

It is worth mentioning that in November 2025, the Punjab government launched what it called the country’s first mobile counterterrorism unit to monitor complex security operations in real time. Earlier, in September, the province announced the arrest of 90 suspected militants during a three-month counterterrorism sweep.
