Is Taj Mehal being demolished

WEB PAGE: Demolition work has begun on the replica of the Taj Mahal located in the famous Seven Wonders Park in Ajmer, Rajasthan, following orders from the Supreme Court of India.

According to Indian media reports, the park was built at a cost of ₹120 million on the banks of Ana Sagar Lake, featuring replicas of the world’s seven wonders that had become a major tourist attraction.

However, six months ago, the court upheld the National Green Tribunal’s decision, ruling that the park was constructed on lake land in violation of environmental regulations, and therefore declared it illegal and ordered its removal.

On Saturday, demolition began under tight security. Large cranes removed the replica of the Eiffel Tower, while workers used hammers and electric cutters to dismantle the replica of the Taj Mahal.

Similarly, Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa is being carefully cut into sections and removed.

The park was one of Ajmer’s prominent recreational sites, attracting dozens of tourists and local families daily.

Local traders and residents have expressed concern over the park’s closure and demolition, saying it will negatively affect business and employment.

On the other hand, officials stated that the move was necessary to comply with court orders and protect the environment. Authorities said the operation will help restore the natural state of the Ana Sagar Lake.

The Seven Wonders Park in Ajmer featured replicas of the world’s most famous landmarks, including Egypt’s Pyramids, Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, Rome’s Colosseum, America’s Statue of Liberty, India’s Taj Mahal, and Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Most of these replicas have already been removed, while demolition work on the Taj Mahal and Pisa Tower replicas is now underway.
