Dense Fog Shuts Down Key Motorway Sections Across Pakistan

Dense Fog

Dense fog has sharply reduced visibility across the country, prompting authorities to close several motorway sections to ensure public safety.

A Central Region spokesperson said officials closed Motorway M-3 from Jaranwala to Darkhana, M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem, and M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir, as well as the Multan–Sukkur section, due to poor visibility.

Authorities also shut down M-5 sections from Multan to Dera Ismail Khan and from Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri after visibility dropped further.

The spokesperson said the closures aim to protect lives and property, warning that lane violations during fog can cause serious accidents. Officials advised motorists to follow lane discipline and, if possible, travel during daytime hours, as fog-safe travel time is between 10am and 6pm.

Drivers were urged to use fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, reduce speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and call the motorway helpline 130 for information and assistance.
