Dense Fog Shuts Lahore–Sialkot Motorway

Dense fog causes closure of major motorways

Authorities closed the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-3) due to dense fog, bringing traffic to a complete halt. A spokesperson for the Motorways Central Region said officials took the decision to protect travellers and prevent accidents, as even minor lane violations in foggy conditions can lead to serious incidents.

The authorities urged drivers to follow lane discipline, avoid unnecessary travel, and plan their journeys during daylight hours. They said the safest time to travel in foggy weather is between 10:00am and 6:00pm.

Motorists have also been advised to switch on fog lights, drive at reduced speeds, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130 for assistance or guidance.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned that unusually dense fog has blanketed Punjab’s plains, including Lahore and nearby districts. The authority said several major highways and motorways are either partially or fully closed due to poor visibility.

Residents have been advised to call the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.
