Web desk: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Thursday that a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea has now developed into a depression, situated around 440 kilometres south of Karachi.
Meteorologists said that Karachi and several districts in southeastern Sindh could receive light to moderate rain as a result of this system.
Coastal belts are likely to face rough sea conditions, with strong winds blowing at speeds of 45 to 55 kilometres per hour.
Local administrations across Sindh, including deputy commissioners, have been instructed to remain alert and ensure safety arrangements are in place.
The Met Office added that the country is currently seeing an unusual extension of the monsoon, with two weather systems, one from the Arabian Sea and another from the Bay of Bengal, combining to influence conditions.
Fourth cyclone alert issued for Sindh as depression forms over Arabian Sea
According to the Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi, this is the fourth alert issued for the depression.
The system is positioned at 21.0° North and 67.9° East in the Arabian Sea and is expected to bring rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds to coastal areas of Sindh.
Light rain and lightning are likely in Karachi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal and Tando Muhammad Khan. Residents in these areas have been urged to take care as unsettled weather continues.
The Met Department further cautioned that winds of 40–50 kilometres per hour could lash the Sindh coast, while high tides and choppy seas would make conditions dangerous for small boats and fishing vessels.
Fishermen warned: rough seas off Sindh coast until Oct 3
Fishermen have again been strictly told to avoid the deep sea until 3 October, while port and coastal authorities have been placed on high alert.
Emergency services and relevant departments have also been instructed to stay prepared.
Officials emphasised that although the system has not yet developed into a cyclone, it is being closely monitored.
They assured that updates will be provided if the depression strengthens further.
