Govt to digitally monitor marriage halls, restaurants

marriage halls violations

The Punjab government has decided to take major action against tax evasion by introducing digital monitoring of marriage halls and restaurants.

The decision was made during a meeting on Punjab’s revenue affairs chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where key measures were approved to make the tax collection system more digital and transparent.

The government announced the installation of advanced camera systems to monitor marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and major food chains across the province.

The meeting was informed that authorities are also considering making digital payments mandatory in certain restaurants instead of cash transactions. Strict action will be taken against businesses issuing fake receipts or concealing sales.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward tax evasion. She said that surveillance through modern camera systems would make the tax system more effective, while the digital system would not only monitor business activities but also help identify tax fraud.

During the meeting, a revenue target of Rs528.5 billion was set for the fiscal year 2026-27. Officials were informed that collections by the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) have increased from Rs250 billion to Rs346 billion, reflecting a 38 per cent rise.

The jurisdiction of the Punjab Revenue Authority has also been expanded from 10 to 26 districts. In addition, dedicated Intelligence and Investigation, Taxpayer Audit, and Legal Wings have been established within the authority.

The Chief Minister directed officials to equip the PRA with modern technology, strengthen enforcement and human resources, and further activate its media wing to enhance public awareness regarding tax compliance.
