In Lahore, transport authorities have increased the popular double-decker bus routes fares raising the costs for tourists and commuters.

According to the new rate list, the price of a ticket for the routes of inner Lahore has been increased from Rs800 to Rs1200, and for students, a discounted fare of Rs600 has been set.  

Similarly, for the route of Wagah Border fare has been raised from Rs1000 to Rs,1500 and the student fare is Rs700 for this trip.

And the double-decker bus service ticket price to Hiran Minar in Sheikhupura has been increased from Rs1200 to Rs1800.

Among the passengers this fare increased have sparked concerns, particularly families and students who use these buses for recreational and travel purposes.  

Earlier, after the increase in petrol and diesel prices, public transporters raised fares on their own causing more hardships for the public who is already bearing the burden of inflation.

Transporters increased fares by Rs1,000 to Rs2,500. Intercity fares have gone up within the same range.

The fare from Lahore to Karachi increased from Rs8,600 to Rs12,000.

Lahore to Islamabad fare has risen from Rs3,000 to Rs4,000. Lahore to Peshawar fare has gone up from Rs3,500 to Rs4,600. Lahore to Sargodha fare increased from Rs1,550 to Rs2,550.

Lahore to Faisalabad fare has been raised from Rs1,350 to Rs2,350. Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan fare increased from Rs4,250 to Rs5,300.

Lahore to Murree fare has gone up from Rs3,300 to Rs4,500. Lahore to Multan fare has increased from Rs2,800 to Rs3,700.

According to the RTA secretary, no official notification has been issued yet for the fare increase. New fare lists are being prepared after consultation with transporters.

He said fares will be revised in line with the increase in petroleum prices.

Following the massive hike in petroleum products, the Oil Tanker Contractors Association threatened a strike to push for higher transport rates.
