Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Karachi has declared Tariq Mateen’s tweet and the related posts circulating on social media to be false and misleading, announcing that it will pursue legal action.

The statement was issued by the university’s registrar, Dr Ashar Afaq.

According to the statement, a high-profile delegation visited DUHS on 20th November 2025, and the university expressed satisfaction over the successful organisation of the large-scale event.

It added that the tweet and social media messages claiming deductions in marks or mandatory attendance requirements are completely incorrect, baseless and misleading. The university clarified that no such directive has been issued.

The statement further notes that strict disciplinary action will be taken against anyone involved in spreading or creating false information. The university will act under its own regulations as well as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Ordinance and its related rules.

Dow was first established in Hyderabad, Pakistan as a small medical school proposed to grant only the LSMF qualification. Before the Independence, in 1941, the Indian Medical Council in order to introduce a uniform standard of medical education either abolished or raised many medical schools to a university degree level.

The Foundation Stone of the new building was laid in Karachi on December 10, 1945, by Sir Hugh Dow, Governor of Sind, after whom this medical college was named. The medical college was transferred from Hyderabad to Karachi on December 31, 1945. It was temporarily housed in the N.J.V. High School building.
