New condition introduced for getting driving license in Sindh: details here

The Government of Sindh has introduced major reforms in the issuance of driving licenses. This means that now pre-driving training is compulsory for all applicants.

Under the new policy, no license will be issued without completing formal training.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, attended by relevant ministers and senior officials.

The meeting also approved the establishment of formal training institutes across the province for drivers of light and heavy vehicles. It aimed to improve professional standards and reduce road accidents.

Officials said the government plans to train one lakh drivers over the next five years. For this they will provide licenses only after proper instruction.

Separate training curricula and practical exercise programs will be developed for drivers of light and heavy vehicles.

In the initial phase, four government technical and vocational institutions will host training centres.

They will be equipped with modern classrooms, computer labs for theoretical lessons, practice fields, on-road driving training, and on-site license issuance facilities.

Additionally, more centres will be established later. Particularly in Karachi, to meet high demand.

Authorities stressed that the initiative is not just about issuing licenses but creating skilled and well-trained drivers to improve traffic discipline nationwide.

The program is also expected to enhance employment opportunities abroad, as thousands of Pakistani drivers work overseas each year, with a relatively low proportion coming from Sindh.

The government has directed concerned departments to implement the plan promptly. It will ensure safe and responsible driving standards across the province.
