Dumper Association threatens protest over petrol hike

The Dumper Association has threatened to launch a nationwide protest following the sharp increase in petroleum prices.

In a statement, the association accused the government of rubbing salt into the wounds of the people instead of applying ointment,” calling the price hike tantamount to strangling the poor.

The association added that transporters, laborers and citizens are already burdened by inflation, and that the government shows no understanding of the suffering of the people.

It emphasised that the increase in petroleum prices is not an economic necessity but a completely anti-people move.

The statement further warned that inflation is destroying jobs, harming businesses and forcing people to go hungry.

The Dumper Association demanded an immediate withdrawal of the price hikes and warned that if the prices are not reduced, they will be compelled to organise a nationwide protest.

On the other hand, in a key meeting between the Transport Department and transporters, a consensus was reached on fare adjustments, and the previously proposed 65% self-imposed hike was withdrawn.

Negotiations led by Secretary RTA Rana Mohsin resulted in an agreement to raise bus fares by 25–30%. Updated fare charts will be issued based on the new rates.

The All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Association has also backed the decision. Transporters have requested that the government reduce token slips, toll plaza fees and fines to help manage operational costs.
