Earthquake with a magnitude of 2.4 jolts Quetta

An intense 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit northwestern Kashmir on Monday that jolted the areas across Gilgit-Baltistan, several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In parts of Hunza and Nagar falling rocks and soil movement were seen along hillside roads that has disrupted traffic and raising safety concerns for travelers.

An intense earthquake has also hit Islamabad and other major cities of Pakistan including Rawalpindi on Monday morning.

As per the authorities the epicenter earthquake was situated near the Kashmir region, warning precautionary measures in high-risk zones.

Although no major casualties were immediately reported, local administrations activated monitoring teams to measure potential damage and identify unstable slopes.

Experts warned that aftershocks could further weaken already fragile terrain, making landslides more likely in the coming hours.

The authorities have advised the locals in affected areas to avoid unnecessary travel near sharp slopes and remain alert to official advisories as assessments continue.

Chaman Earthquake

An Earthquake jolted Pakistan’s largest province by area, Balochistan, near Chaman and the border connecting with Afghanistan.

People came out of their homes in panic along with their families, however, no reports of casualties or damage were received.

The epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, an area known for frequent seismic activity due to tectonic plate movements.

Residents in affected areas reported shaking that lasted for a few seconds, prompting people to come out of their homes and buildings as a precaution. However, no immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received.

The PMD said the situation is being closely monitored.
