Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has responded to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directive asking him to personally teach a class in one school every week.
In a video message, the minister said that English and Chemistry are his favorite subjects, and he will begin teaching with those. He said he would teach English in primary schools and Chemistry in high schools, while also conducting classes in other subjects from time to time.
Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that he will start teaching from the first week of September and will visit one school every week without prior notice. He said no one would know in advance when or which school he would visit.
“I have great respect for teachers and will feel proud to serve as one,” he said.
The education minister explained that the chief minister’s directive is aimed at enabling a firsthand assessment of school conditions, academic standards, and on-ground challenges. He said direct interaction with teachers and students would support education reforms and help identify and address weaknesses in classroom teaching.
Rana Sikandar Hayat added that he believes in inspecting schools personally rather than relying solely on reports. He said the initiative would accelerate efforts to improve the quality of government schools and transform them into model educational institutions.
Earlier, Rana Sikandar Hayat shared encouraging news for students regarding the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme. While addressing university students, he announced that the first batch of laptops under Phase 2 of the scheme has officially arrived in Punjab.
The initiative aims to support students by providing access to modern technology and strengthening digital learning across the province.
The minister confirmed that initially 30,000 laptops have been received in the province for the second phase of the scheme.
He further stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally approved the distribution of more than 70,000 laptops among talented students across the province during the current year, to equip the youth with modern technology.
This important announcement comes after the Punjab government allocated a record Rs 750 billion for the education sector in the budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.
