Sindh announces Eidul Azha holidays

The Sindh government has announced a four-day public holidays for the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, which will be celebrated on May 27.

According to the notification issued by the Sindh government, holidays have been declared from May 26 (Tuesday) till May 29 (Friday).

Eid ul Azha will be observed on May 27, the moon sighting Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee (RHC) announced on May 17 after the crescent for the month of Zilhaj was sighted.

The announcement was made after a meeting of the committee held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Karachi, with Maulana Azad in the chair.

The federal government has announced a three-day holiday for Eid ul Azha from May 26 till May 28.  

Eid ul Azha, also called the “Feast of Sacrifice,” marks the Qur’anic account of Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah. The act was stopped by divine command and replaced with a ram.

The festival is observed with special prayers, family gatherings, and charity. Muslims perform animal sacrifice and distribute meat among relatives, friends, and the needy.
