Eight India-backed terrorists killed in Bannu operation

Bannu

Security forces and law-enforcement agencies carried out a joint operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, killing eight terrorists.

According to the ISPR, the operation was conducted on intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the Bannu region. Eight India-backed militants from the outlawed Khawarij group were killed.

ISPR said the security forces effectively targeted the militants’ hideout, recovering weapons and ammunition from the slain terrorists.

The militants were involved in multiple attacks against security forces, as well as target killings of law-enforcement officials and innocent civilians.

ISPR added that the successful operation reflects strong coordination between security forces and law-enforcement agencies, leading to a rise in intelligence-based operations in the region.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. The spike in incidents followed the TTP ending a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowing to attack security forces, police, and personnel of law enforcement agencies.

Last month, the Islamabad-based think tank Centre for Research and Security Studies said that violence had surged over the past three months due to a spike in militant attacks and intensified counter-terrorism operations.
