Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz has officially announced that electric buses will be launched in all 148 tehsils throughout Punjab as the provincial government moves to improve its public transport network.
In a statement, the Chief Minister of Punjab indicated that electric buses would be made available across the province to make public transport services more efficient and modernise urban mobility infrastructure.
The development comes after Maryam Nawaz approved the introduction of new electric buses for 10 additional districts in Punjab. These districts included Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, and Okara.
The approval was given during a meeting that assessed the progress of mass transit projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
During this meeting, the CM instructed officials to speed up the construction and rehabilitation of metro bus stations and also approved new designs for the stations.
Electric buses introduced for medical students
In April, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences also introduced its first-ever electric bus service on campus, marking a major step towards modern and eco-friendly transportation for students.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram Din Ujjan termed the initiative a major milestone in the university’s history, emphasising that it goes beyond just providing transport and serves as meaningful relief for students.
The new service was expected to ease the financial burden of students, promote a cleaner environment, and improve overall traffic management on campus.
Students welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it would significantly cut down their travel expenses and enhance daily commuting.
