The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) suggested that an inmate may have entered Jeffrey Epstein’s prison area on the night of his death. The newly released files include surveillance footage showing an orange figure that seemed to be the killer of Epstein moving near the infamous sex offender’s cell.

Jeffrey Edward Epstein was an American financier, child sex offender, serial rapist, and human trafficker. Epstein died on August 10, 2019, at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in New York. His death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging. However, inconsistencies in security footage and other details have created a fresh controversy about what really happened. Who is that orange shirt guy?
Unusual footage raises questions
The FBI observed a “flash of orange blob” moving up a L-staircase toward Epstein’s cell around 10:39pm on August 9, 2019. The agency noted that the figure could have been an inmate escorted to that part of the prison.
The Inspector General offered a different explanation, suggesting it could have been prison linen or bedding being carried up during lockdown. Both accounts appear to conflict with earlier statements from US officials.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr said in 2019 that he had reviewed the footage and confirmed no one entered Epstein’s cell area. Former FBI deputy director Dan Bongino also said the video clearly showed Epstein as the only person present.
Forensic’s stance
The statement of the experts examining the footage remains divided. Retired New York Police Department (NYPD) sergeant Conor McCourt said the orange shape may have been another prisoner. Video forensic expert Jim Safford and colleagues argued that it would have been possible for someone to access the stairs without being seen.
Another point of concern is a missing minute from the footage. The raw CCTV recording, released in full, showed multiple edits over several hours, with a one-minute gap just before midnight. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently explained that this occurred because the prison’s recording system resets each night.
The released FBI files and surveillance footage do not provide definitive answers. Analysts note that the missing footage and differing interpretations of the orange figure leave some uncertainty about Epstein’s final hours.
Is Epstein still alive?
Authorities and experts continue to investigate and review the evidence, but the question of how Epstein died still remains unanswered.
According to a post shared on X, the user has shared a picture of a person with a grey beard on his face, looking just like Jeffry. There has been no official statement regarding the post shared online, whether it is true or fake.
Where to find Epstein files?
The Department of Justice has released a series of new episodes of the Epstein files recently. The three million pages have been embedded in an interface named ‘Jmail.world’. The platform includes Gmail, pictures, and videos shared and recorded by Jeffry Epstein. Some footages are even hard to watch.
