Explosion Reported in Kabul, Confirms Zabihullah Mujahid

Web desk: An explosion has been reported in Kabul, confirmed by Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.

Explosions and heavy gunfire were reported on Thursday in Kabul’s central Shahr-e-Naw district.

Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed an incident.

Initial accounts say an airstrike hit a Land Cruiser near the civil court area.

Initial reports claim Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Noor Wali Mehsud was killed in the attack.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Qari Saifullah Mehsud and Khalid Mehsud both seen as potential successors to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Noor Wali Mehsud were killed alongside him.

The reports have drawn intense media attention in the region.

Roads in parts of Shahr-e-Naw were reportedly restricted as security forces swept the area. Authorities said further details would be shared after preliminary findings are complete.

Following earlier reports coming from Kabul, loud explosions were also reported in Afghanistan’s Paktika province.
