The Education Department of Sindh has introduced a digital attendance system based on facial recognition and geo-fencing technology for teaching and non-teaching staff in government schools for the first time.
To implement the system, the department has developed a mobile application called “FRAMES,” through which teachers and other staff members will mark their attendance using facial recognition at their assigned schools.
The app also includes a geo-fencing feature, ensuring that attendance can only be marked from the employee’s official place of posting.
In the first phase, the Education Department has started the registration process for teachers and other staff members. Officials expect the process to be completed by July, while the system will be formally launched after summer vacations.
Speaking to the media, Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) Deputy Director Parvez Ahmed Tania said that all government schools will gradually shift to facial recognition attendance through the new app.
“The app will only log in from the location where the teacher or staff member is posted. That is why the geo-fencing feature has been added,” he explained.
He said the main purpose of the initiative is to ensure staff attendance and improve monitoring in government schools across the province.
Parvez Tania further said that teachers and staff members will also be able to mark attendance without internet access. The app will store the attendance data offline and automatically upload it to the system once the mobile device reconnects to the internet.
Officials believe the new digital system will help improve transparency, accountability, and attendance management in public schools throughout Sindh.
