South African star cricketer Faf du Plessis has officially confirmed that he will skip the IPL 2026 auction and instead play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next season.

In a statement posted on Instagram, du Plessis said, “After 14 seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back.”

Reflecting on his time in the league, he called it “a massive part of my journey,” adding that he had been “lucky to play with world-class teammates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else.”

He also thanked everyone who supported him over the years: “To every coach, teammate, support staff member, and every fan who has backed me — thank you. Your support has meant the world.”

Explaining his next move, du Plessis said, “This year, I’ve chosen to take on a new challenge and will be playing in the upcoming PSL season.”

Calling it “an exciting step,” he described the league as a chance “to experience something new, to grow as a player, and to embrace a league filled with incredible talent and energy.”

He concluded by saying he is looking forward to “a new country, a new environment, a new challenge” and added, “I’m looking forward to the Pakistan hospitality. See you all soon.”

His decision to prioritise the PSL in 2026 is expected to boost the tournament’s profile, adding another high-profile international star to its lineup.
