LAHORE: A teenage fan created a brief stir at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday after breaching security during the first Test between Pakistan and South Africa in an emotional attempt to meet Babar Azam on his 31st birthday.
According to reports, the teenager climbed through the Majid Khan Enclosure and made his way toward the players’ dressing room area before being intercepted by security officials.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, showing the young fan attempting to reach the players’ area while shouting Babar Azam’s name.
Members of Pakistan’s coaching staff noticed the intrusion and quickly informed security personnel.
Despite repeatedly pleading to meet his cricketing idol, the fan was escorted out of the area by security. No harm was reported during the incident.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet commented on the breach, which took place amid tight security arrangements at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Babar Azam who turned 31 today had been flooded with birthday wishes from fans, fellow cricketers, and legends from around the world. They paid tribute to a man whose batting has long been described as “pure silk.”
The praise is well earned. Born in Lahore, Babar isn’t just a batsman, he’s a record machine. From his key role in Pakistan’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy win to back-to-back ICC ODI Player of the Year titles in 2021 and 2022, his numbers speak for themselves. He’s the fastest to 5,000 ODI runs and 2,500 T20I runs, a true modern great.
