The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has reopened the multi-storey parking plaza at Fawara Chowk in Rawalpindi after a 20-day closure.
RDA has taken over its control through a self-collection system following a dispute with the previous contractor.
The parking plaza was sealed on July 12 by the RDA after the contractor allegedly failed to pay Rs48.2 million in outstanding dues, which officials said had remained unpaid for seven months.
According to the RDA, the contractor later offered to pay Rs15 million after the matter reached court, but the authority rejected the proposal, insisting the full amount had to be cleared before operations could resume.
Although the RDA later secured a court ruling in its favour, the parking plaza remained closed for nearly three weeks, causing inconvenience for motorists in the busy commercial area and an estimated revenue loss of more than Rs100,000 per day.
Since reopening on 1 August, the authority has deployed its own staff to manage the facility.
A Vigilance and Revenue Collection Committee has also been established to oversee daily collections and ensure revenue is deposited directly into RDA accounts.
Officials said the parking plaza will be offered to private operators again through an open auction scheduled for August 17, 2026.
