All offices of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will remain open on June 27 and 28. According to the FBR spokesperson, all offices will function as usual on June 27 and 28. The offices will also remain open from 8 a.m. on June 28 until midnight on June 30.
All Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayer Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) will continue the tax collection process until midnight on June 30, 2026.
The spokesperson said that taxpayers will be facilitated in making payments from June 27 to June 30.
According to the official letter, the offices will operate extended hours to ensure the collection of taxes and duties. The FBR has issued instructions to all Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue to implement special working hours.
The decision to continue tax collection until midnight on June 30, 2026, is considered an important step toward achieving end-of-year fiscal targets.
On the other hand, tax expert Asif Haroon has advised the government that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should be divided into two parts.
While talking to a private TV channel, Asif Haroon said that 95 per cent of revenue collection happens automatically through the system, and even if the FBR were shut down today, this revenue would still be collected. He added that despite the FBR’s efforts, it directly contributes only about two to three per cent of total tax collection.
He suggested that the government should assign a separate target to the FBR related to bank data. Asif Haroon said, “The FBR should be divided into two parts. The FBR dealing with registered taxpayers should be separated, and a large number of officers within the institution should be assigned to a separate unit focused on the undocumented economy.
