The Federal Board of Revenue has extended the income tax return filing deadline for tax year 2025 by fifteen days to October 15.
Extension granted under Section 214A after requests from trade bodies, tax bars, and the public
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the FBR said the decision was made under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
Officials cited appeals from trade bodies, taxpayers, and tax bar associations as the basis for the relief.
As a result, all eligible filers now have until October 15 to submit returns for tax year 2025.
The extension covers both individuals and entities that file within the standard annual cycle.
Authorities urged taxpayers to use the additional time to complete accurate declarations and avoid last minute congestion on the portal.
Move follows an earlier stance that ruled out any extension for the current filing cycle
The relaxation arrived only hours after the FBR had publicly ruled out any extension and reminded filers to meet the original deadline by midnight.
The quick shift reflects sustained outreach from representative groups who warned of system load and documentation delays.
According to the FBR, the objective is to improve compliance rather than penalise late submissions caused by procedural bottlenecks.
Even with the new date, the revenue body emphasised that enforcement tools remain available for chronic non compliance and urged timely filing.
Filing facilitation steps include removal of market value column to simplify the return form
Earlier this month, the FBR removed the estimated market value column from the 2025 return form on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Officials said the change is meant to simplify data entry and reduce ambiguity for filers.
In addition, help desks and call centres will continue to guide taxpayers on documentation, payment verification, and portal navigation.
Additionally, the FBR plans to monitor portal performance and daily submission volumes. If required, the body will issue further operational advisories so that taxpayers can file smoothly before the stipulated deadline.
