FBR offices to stay open on Friday to achieve tax target

According to the FBR notification, field offices will stay open on Friday and will remain active for tax collection, while the decisions of the Cabinet Division will not apply to the FBR.

The notification stated that 50 percent of the staff will not work from home, but all will come to the office, and every effort will be made to collect maximum sales tax during Eid shopping.

In addition, FBR sources further said that vigorous efforts and offices staying open on Friday will continue to reduce the tax shortfall.

FBR to implement online monitoring of businesses

In February, FBR made the decision to initiate online monitoring of business operations throughout Pakistan, thereby mandating Point of Sale (POS) systems for over 14 sectors.

According to a notification released by the tax authority, establishments such as hotels, restaurants, guest houses, marriage halls, marquees, and race clubs are required to install POS systems to facilitate digital oversight of transactions.

However, those facilities lacking air conditioning will be exempt from this obligation.

Additionally, the FBR has mandated the installation of POS systems in vehicles operating within urban areas, while courier and cargo services, beauty parlours, massage centres, and pedicure centres must complete their online registration.

Healthcare practitioners, including dentists, physiotherapists, plastic and hair surgeons, as well as veterinary doctors, are required to install POS systems.

Medical laboratories, X-ray facilities, CT scan, and MRI centres have also been instructed to comply.

Private hospitals will also be subject to this new regulation, although hospitals that charge a fee of Rs500 will be exempt from this requirement.
