FBR keeps tax offices open on Saturday to facilitate taxpayers

FBR office open Saturday

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again cancelled the Saturday holiday for its officials, directing all major tax offices to remain open on January 31, 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to support taxpayers and keep revenue collection on track.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the FBR said all field formations, including Large Taxpayer Offices, Medium Taxpayer Offices, Corporate Tax Offices and Regional Tax Offices, will operate on Saturday during normal working hours. The decision, according to the authority, is aimed at providing greater convenience to taxpayers, particularly those who need to visit offices in person ahead of key deadlines.

The FBR said the offices will remain fully functional for the collection of taxes, duties and other government revenues. Officials believe keeping offices open on weekends helps reduce last-minute pressure on both taxpayers and staff, especially during busy periods of the fiscal year.

This is not the first time the tax authority has taken such a step. The Saturday holiday was also cancelled last month, reflecting a broader pattern of extending working days and hours to ensure steady revenue inflows. Similar measures were announced at the end of December, when the FBR cancelled the Saturday holiday on December 27, 2025, to facilitate taxpayers before the close of the calendar year.

At that time, the authority also extended office hours on December 31, keeping relevant tax offices open until 10:00pm to allow businesses and individuals more time to clear their dues. The move was widely seen as an attempt to maximise collections before year-end targets were reviewed.

According to the FBR, these decisions are taken with the aim of making the tax system more accessible, especially for those who face difficulties visiting offices during regular weekdays due to work or business commitments. By offering additional working days, the authority hopes to ease congestion at offices and reduce delays in processing payments and paperwork.

Taxpayers planning to visit FBR tax offices on January 31 have been advised to use the opportunity to resolve pending matters, as all relevant offices will be available to provide services during standard hours.
