FBR Tax Return Deadline for Manual Filers Extended

Web desk: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for manual income tax return filing until November 30, calling it a “special measure” to assist manual filers as the agency moves toward full digitalisation of tax operations nationwide.

FBR Tax Return Deadline Extended

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced special facilities for manual income tax filers as part of its efforts to promote online return filing and digitise the tax system.

According to the FBR, the last date for filing returns for manual taxpayers has been extended to November 30. Taxpayers submitting manual returns at FBR offices will be provided with full assistance, including support for registration and return filing.

The FBR added that if any manual taxpayer requires legal help, the field offices will offer free assistance. “We are committed to facilitating taxpayers and promoting a digitised and efficient tax system,” the FBR stated.

An FBR spokesperson said the decision aims to accommodate a small number of taxpayers who may find it difficult to shift immediately to the online filing system.

“With the goal of ensuring a smooth transition to digital filing, the FBR has discontinued manual returns from Tax Year 2024. However, recognising that some individuals may face challenges adapting to the new system, special facilitation has been introduced for such filers,” the spokesperson explained.

A formal notification has been issued in this regard.

To ease the process, the FBR has established dedicated help cells in all tax offices to provide both legal and technical assistance to those previously filing manual returns.

“Manual filers are encouraged to visit their respective tax offices, where they can receive free help for registration and online return submission. Those requiring legal guidance will also be offered free legal support through FBR field offices during the current tax year,” the statement added.

The extension has been granted under powers outlined in Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

According to the FBR, this initiative reflects its commitment to supporting taxpayers while advancing a fully digitised, transparent, and efficient tax system in Pakistan.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is Pakistan’s top federal law enforcement and tax administration agency.

It is responsible for designing and implementing fiscal policies, as well as collecting federal taxes and duties that support government operations and public services.
