Pakistani film, “Mera Lyari” has been selected for screening at the 28th UK Asian Film Festival in London, where it will have its world premiere.

Film, “Mera Lyari”, is the true projection of Lyari and challenged the Indian propaganda film Dhurender, which is against Pakistan and Karachi’s area Lyari.

Pakistani film, “Mera Lyari”, showed Lyari as the hub of cultural and sports activities. It is pertinent to mention that Lyari has been largely portrayed in the media in the context of crime and unrest in the past.

However, Pakistani film “Mera Lyari” portrays a different and more positive image, highlighting the strength of the community, local resistance, and the area’s deep connection to football.

The film’s world premiere will be held on May 2 at the British Film Institute (BFI) in London. Several media reports also confirmed that after the film’s world premiere, it can be released in Pakistan as well.

Pakistani film ‘Mera Lyari’

This film is being hailed as a major breakthrough in Pakistani cinema, which is also being called “Pakistan’s answer” in the context of the Indian film “Dharendra”.

The cast of the film includes Ayesha Omar, Dananir Mubeen, Samia Mumtaz, Nayar Ijaz, Paris Masroor, and Adnan Shah Tipu.

The film was released in Pakistan in January 2026 with the support of the Sindh government. The director has tried to portray the daily life of Lyari in a realistic manner so as to present a balanced and realistic picture instead of the negative perception of the area.

It is also important to mention that initially the film title was Behnaz, and then it changed to “Mera Lyari.”
