The National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has filed an FIR against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) CM Sohail Afridi over some remarks.
According to reports, the chief minister made statements on social media and other platforms that were deemed disrespectful and hurtful to religious sentiments.
Subsequently, a first information report (FIR) was registered against him today on behalf of the state and under Sections 11, 20 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
The FIR says, “Consequent upon the conclusion of Enquiry No. 2287/2025 dated 08-11-2025 of NCCIA, Cyber Crime Reporting Centre. Islamabad, it transpired that the accused Muhammad Sohail s/o Muhammad Sattar, CNIC 2120168266579 r/o Shalobar Qambar Khel, Hisara Khwar, Bara Khyber and others, knowingly and deliberately with malafide intentions and ulterior motives, uttered false, misleading, derogatory and intimidating words against State Institutions”
“In a video, the accused made statement containing offensive, profane, false, misleading, and unfounded allegations, with the intent to malign, defame, and cause harm to the reputation and integrity of the State Institutions of Pakistan. Transcript of the excerpt of the said video, is reproduced as follows”, the FIR added.
Cybercrime authorities said the FIR has been filed to investigate whether the chief minister’s remarks violated any legal boundaries.
The chief minister’s statements have sparked strong reactions across the province, with religious leaders and lawyers condemning the remarks and calling them an affront to public sentiment.
In the report, Afridi was also accused of being involved in “preparing, publishing, sharing and circulating fake and misleading contents publicly on social media with the intention to incite violence, create racial hatred, panic, fear, disorder and unrest among the general public alongwith promoting anti-state sentiments, which is detrimental to the security, integrity and stability of Pakistan”.
In response, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has advised caution in handling the matter.
