Fire erupts at Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone factory

Fire broke out at a factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone on Friday, prompting a massive response from emergency services.

Rescue authorities have classified the blaze as a third-degree fire, indicating an intense and difficult‑to‑control inferno, according to media reports.

Emergency officials said at least ten fire brigade vehicles and two snorkels are engaged in efforts to extinguish the flames, which have been hampered by dense smoke and the presence of highly combustible materials inside the factory.

The factory, which produces plastic items, has been engulfed in thick smoke since the fire began. Rescue teams, including firefighters and personnel from Rescue 1122, have cordoned off the area and are working to control the situation.

Authorities have urged people to stay clear of the area to allow emergency crews to operate safely and efficiently.

The Chief Fire Officer stated that fire brigade vehicles are facing difficulties in reaching the factory due to traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Sindh has ordered the SSP Malir and the SP Traffic to reach the scene.

According to a spokesperson, the IG Sindh has directed authorities to keep the roads clear to ensure timely access for the fire brigade and rescue personnel, and to secure the affected factory and surrounding areas.
