The expected date for the holy month of Ramadan has been revealed after the sighting of the Shaban moon in Pakistan. First of Ramadan in Pakistan will be on February 19, 2026, if the month of Shaban is of 29 days. In case, if it is 30 days long, then February 20, 2026, will be the first day for fasting in Pakistan.
The Shaban moon has been sighted in Pakistan, with January 21, 2026, being the first day of the Islamic month. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, considered sacred for spiritual reflection, fasting and worship.
An overview of the Holy month
Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during this time and abstain from eating, drinking and worldly desires. The month provides an opportunity for self-control, charity and strengthening faith and ends with the joys of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The final announcement regarding the confirmation of dates will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan, which will confirm the date based on the moon sightings and witness testimony in a meeting at the end of Shaban.
On the other hand, the federal government has also announced the official holidays for 2026. According to the official notification issued by the cabinet division, the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays will be on March 21, 22 and 23.
