First Pakistani airport to launch 5G services

The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has launched 5G service at Islamabad International Airport, and announced that Islamabad International Airport is the first airport with the facility of 5G.

In the issued statement, the PAA confirmed that the authority launched 5G service at the Islamabad International Airport in collaboration of private telecom company to provide fast internet to the passengers.

“The newly launched 5G services will enhance passengers’ travel experience with high-speed connectivity and advanced digital amenities,” said the PAA statement.

Pakistan has recently sold 5G spectrum worth $507million through auction to enhance internet speed.

After the launch, telecom companies said that they will initially install 5G services in the federal capital and the provincial capitals. After that, the telecom companies confirmed that they will launch 5G services in other areas of the country.

The government sold a total of 480 MHz of spectrum, falling short of its original target of 597 MHz. Three telecom operators — Jazz, Zong, and Ufone — secured the frequencies to roll out next-generation mobile services.
