Flood has caused widespread destruction in Nepal again, sweeping away a market and damaging several properties in the country’s mountainous Gorkha district.
The flooding occurred after a landslide blocked the natural flow of a river.
The obstruction caused water to accumulate before a powerful flood swept through nearby settlements and commercial areas.
Salleri Bazaar was completely washed away by the floodwaters, while Jagat Bazaar also suffered extensive damage.
The sudden flooding caused serious losses to local businesses, shops and other properties.
However, no deaths or injuries had been reported. Authorities still assessing the damage in the affected areas.
In Gorkha, the flood reportedly destroyed Salleri Bazaar and caused damage to Jagat Bazaar.
Commercial buildings and other properties were affected, leaving local traders facing substantial losses.
Communities living close to rivers in Nepal can face sudden emergencies when landslides interrupt natural waterways.
Residents in such locations are generally advised to remain alert to unusual river conditions and follow local emergency instructions.
Floods strike Nepal-Tibet border
Previously, flash floods and landslides on the Nepal-Tibet border caused widespread destruction. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, at least 95 people died, while hundreds of tourists remain missing, including more than 100 Indian nationals and 12 British nationals.
Nepal’s Foreign Minister expressed concern that an earthquake followed by an avalanche may have triggered the devastating floods.
Pakistan dispatched relief aid
Moreover, Pakistan also dispatched 100 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to flood-hit Nepal to support relief efforts.
The Foreign Office announced the development, saying the aid was sent to Nepal on the directions of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif.
A send-off ceremony was held at Islamabad International Airport, attended by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik.
The Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, along with senior officials from the Foreign Office, NDMA and humanitarian organisations, also attended the ceremony.
