The price of flour has been increased in several Pakistani cities, with the cost of a 20kg bag exceeding Rs3,000 in some major urban centres, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Islamabad recorded the highest reported price, with a 20kg bag selling for as much as Rs3,133. Prices reached Rs3,100 in Peshawar and Rs3,093 in Rawalpindi.
Karachi and Larkana recorded increases of Rs100 during the week, taking the price of a 20kg bag to Rs3,000 and Rs2,600 respectively. Sukkur saw a Rs60 increase, while prices in Bannu rose by Rs50 to Rs2,950.
In other cities, a 20kg bag was reported at Rs2,960 in Bahawalpur, Rs2,793 in Sargodha and Rs2,750 in Quetta. Hyderabad, Multan, Sialkot and Gujranwala recorded prices of around Rs2,800.
The price was comparatively lower in Lahore and Faisalabad, where a 20kg bag was selling for about Rs2,300 and Rs2,200 respectively.
The latest increase is expected to put further pressure on household budgets, particularly for low-income families who rely on flour as a basic food staple.
The data highlights significant differences in flour prices across the country, while recent increases in several cities have added to concerns over the rising cost of essential food items.
