Forced sale of books, uniforms in schools banned

Govt banned forced school book uniform

The Punjab government has decided to end the forced sale and monopoly of books and uniforms by private educational institutions, issuing strict directives to ensure implementation of the law.

According to the School Education Department that Section 7-A of the Private Educational Institutions Ordinance 1984 will be enforced rigorously.

A formal notification clarified that no private school is allowed to compel parents to purchase books or uniforms from any specific shop. Such practices will be treated as a violation of the law.

The department expressed serious concern over complaints received from parents, prompting immediate action. All District Education Authorities have been directed to ensure compliance, while school principals and in-charges have also been instructed to strictly follow the orders.

Under the new directive, parents have full freedom to purchase books and uniforms from any vendor of their choice. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against institutions found violating the rules.

District Education Authorities have also been directed to submit implementation reports to the Education Department.
