A former Superintendent of Islamabad Police, Arif Shah, has been awarded the death penalty over the kidnapping and murder of a young policeman, Hamza Khan.
District and Session Judge Afzal Majoka announced the sentence on Wednesday after hearing final arguments from both sides.
Hamza, a friend of Shah’s son, was lured to Mansehra, tortured, shot, and buried in an 8-foot pit. Police cracked the case using CCTV and mobile data.
During the investigation, Arif Shah was taken to the Khaki area in Mansehra, where he identified the burial site. Police later exhumed the body from the location.
A financial dispute between the suspect and the victim was the motive behind the crime.
Islamabad police had taken Shah’s son and brother-in-law into custody in connection with the case.
Shah, has also been accused of abusing his power, also allegedly harassed Hamza’s family and assaulted journalists during court hearings
Arif Shah had earlier been arrested during his service in a separate case involving the murder of a young lady constable, Iqra Nazir. However, he was released after police failed to prove the charges.
