OKARA: Former Punjab chief minister Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has passed away, his wife Rubina Shaheen Wattoo confirmed on Tuesday. He was 86 years old.
Manzoor Wattoo remained active in national politics for decades.
He played a key role in Punjab’s political landscape and held several important positions.
He also served as Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. His political career spanned different eras and parties.
Following the news of his death, a wave of grief spread across Okara. Residents described his passing as the end of a golden chapter in local politics.
Condolences are continuing to pour in from across Punjab.

Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo served as Punjab chief minister in 1993. He remained associated with Pakistan Muslim League from 1985 to 1993.
From 1993 to 1995, he stayed with Muslim League (Junejo) and between 1995 and 2002, he joined Pakistan Muslim League (Jinnah).
He later became part of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid from 2002 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2018, Manzoor Wattoo remained with the Pakistan Peoples Party.
He joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2018 and stayed till 2020. After 2020, he rejoined the Pakistan Peoples Party.
His long political journey spanned several major parties and eras.
