France records first Ebola case as doctor tests positive

France has now confirmed its first case of the deadly Ebola virus after a doctor returning from Congo tested positive for the disease.

The doctor was quickly taken and admitted to a special facility.

According to the French health ministry, he is now in stable condition.

The Ebola outbreak was only announced last month in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is now estimated that over 260 people have died from the virus in DR Congo. Nearly 1000 people have been infected so far.

It is important to note that Europe has now recorded its first confirmed case of Ebola. However, earlier, a German hospital had treated an infected American doctor.

The first case was reported on May 15 in northeastern Congo but concerns exist that the outbreak could have been going undetected for some time.

At the moment, there is no approved vaccine or therapy for this specific strain of the virus, experts say.

WHO and the Africa CDC have meanwhile announced a $518 million emergency response plan for the coming six months.

It will focus on increasing surveillance and laboratory testing and infection prevention activities.

Emirates takes measures against spread of Ebola to UAE

Earlier, Emirates Airlines also issued a travel advisory after the implementation of stricter entry and visa measures by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in response to concerns over the spread of Ebola.

The advisory came as authorities increased health and border control precautions to prevent the virus from entering the country.

According to the new measures, the UAE temporarily suspended the issuance of new visas and restricted entry for nationals of three African countries.

These include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. The decision was taken as a preventive measure amid concerns regarding Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa.
