France offers to host ceasefire talks between Lebanon and Israel

ceasefire talks

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the country is prepared to hold ceasefire talks in Paris between Lebanon and Israel.

Macron said he spoke to the Lebanese president, prime minister, and parliament speaker on Friday, and they were open to “direct discussions with Israel”.

He called on Israel to abandon its large-scale offensive and ongoing attacks, and for Hezbollah to stop its “reckless escalation” of the conflict.

“Israel must seize this opportunity to launch talks and a ceasefire, find a lasting solution, and allow Lebanese authorities to fulfil their commitments in support of Lebanon’s sovereignty,” he wrote.

Earlier, at least one person was killed and four wounded in an Israeli air attack in an area east of Beirut, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

The Israeli army has been hitting hard in Lebanon since Hezbollah fired a salvo of rockets last week against Israel.

In another development, US–Israel attacks on Iran are escalating.

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz says the war with Tehran is entering a “decisive phase”, praising US attacks on what Washington called military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island oil export hub.

Death toll rises in Iran

In Iran, nearly 43,000 civilian units have been damaged, of which 36,500 were residential units. 43 emergency units, 32 ambulances, and 120 schools have been hit.

At least 223 women have been killed, and the tally of students and teachers killed has risen to 206.
