Amid the increase in fuel prices, motorcycle riders are being offered free petrol till Eid.
Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, announced that the motorcyclists will get 3 litres of petrol free of charge till Eid-ul-Fitr.
He added that he could go to any petrol pump in the city during the next couple of days and personally see to it that riders at the station are refuelled.
Tessori said this would be an Eid gift to those who cannot buy petrol worth a thousand rupees in this current level of inflation.
“The region is under war like condition; pray for peace to prevail,” he added.
He said if the conflict drags on, prices of petrol and necessary goods will keep rising. He also stressed the need to abide by the austerity plan of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Governor also announced that the last ten days of Ramadan all Iftar parties at the Governor House are cancelled but “Hope of Ramadan” meals for the public will not stop.
He also mentioned that he has personally cancelled all his Iftar engagements as a guest.
In other news Former Provincial Transport Minister Ibrahim Murad has suggested the introduction of a dedicated fuel card programme to reduce the financial pressure on students due to the increasing petrol prices.
The suggestion comes in the wake of a Rs55 per litre hike in the prices of petrol by the federal government, an increase that has been putting considerable pressure on individuals especially students as they relied on motorcycles to commute to their schools, colleges and universities.
Under Murad’s proposal, there would be a special ‘fuel card’ issued to students giving them 10 litres of petrol at a subsidised rate every month.
The program is meant to make transportation more affordable for students, so that they aren’t hindered in their ability to attend their classes and continue their education.
