French football star Karim Benzema has performed Umrah in Makkah, sharing a heartfelt message with his followers from the holy city.
The former Real Madrid striker posted a picture of himself at the Grand Mosque in Makkah wearing ihram, accompanied by the words, “Alhamdulillah for everything.”
Benzema, 38, recently parted ways with Saudi club Al Hilal after his contract was mutually terminated on August 31, leaving the former Ballon d’Or winner without a club.
His brief spell with Al Hilal proved successful, as he made 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists while helping the club win the King’s Cup.
Benzema had also been linked with a return to French club Lyon, where he began his professional career. However, the move did not materialise due to his contractual situation.
The French forward has also reportedly received an invitation from UAE Second Division side Arabian Falcons to train and play with the club without committing to a long-term deal.
The invitation reportedly included other high-profile free agents, including Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Raheem Sterling.
Benzema’s latest appearance in Makkah comes as the football star takes a break from competitive football following his departure from Al Hilal.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced a new policy for Umrah pilgrims from Pakistan and other countries, introducing a mandatory food voucher system that is expected to increase the overall cost of performing Umrah.
According to details, the Saudi government has announced that a “Nusuk Food Voucher” will be mandatory for Umrah pilgrims from Pakistan, India, Egypt, and Bangladesh. The cost of the voucher will be included in the total Umrah visa fee. The new policy will come into effect from 1st Rabi-ul-Awwal. Under the new system, every Umrah pilgrim will be required to pay approximately 20 Saudi Riyals per day for food, with the amount automatically added during the visa processing procedure.
The introduction of the mandatory voucher is expected to raise the overall cost of Umrah packages. Travel agents in Pakistan and other affected countries have started reviewing their package prices in light of the additional expense. Saudi authorities have integrated hotel bookings, transportation, food services, and other facilities into the Nusuk digital platform to modernise and streamline arrangements for Umrah pilgrims.
