From iPhone Fold to 20: Apple’s upcoming smartphones

upcoming Apple iPhones

Apple is gearing up for an exciting two years for iPhone users, with a series of new devices set to hit the market between 2026 and 2027, according to a report from The Information.

The tech giant’s roadmap includes incremental updates, high-end Pro models, a foldable iPhone, and a special iPhone 20 to mark its 20th anniversary.

iPhone 17e and iPhone 18 Pro series

The iPhone 17e is expected in spring 2026 and will offer a modest update over the iPhone 16e. It will include Apple’s new C1X modem and bring back magnetic wireless charging, a feature many users missed in the iPhone 16e.

Later in 2026, Apple will launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. These phones are expected to feature an under-display Face ID sensor, a front-facing camera relocated to the top-left corner, and a mechanical aperture for at least one camera.

This upgrade will help capture brighter night photos while preventing overexposed images during the day. Internally, the phones will use a new chip design from TSMC, placing memory chips closer to the core processor.

Introducing the iPhone Fold

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is also expected in fall 2026. The iPhone Fold will offer a 7.7-inch display when unfolded, with a 5.3-inch screen when folded. The design will resemble an iPad in width when opened, though sources warn the dimensions could change.

Early production has faced display defects, which Apple considers normal at this stage. The selfie camera and key sensors will sit in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Updates for 2027

Spring 2027 will see the release of the base iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e. The standard iPhone 18 will remove haptic feedback and touch sensing from the Camera Control, while the budget-friendly 18e will continue supporting wireless charging. Apple is also redesigning the iPhone Air 2 after disappointing sales of the first model, potentially adding a second camera and reducing costs.

The iPhone 20

Looking further ahead, Apple is preparing the iPhone 20 for fall 2027. This milestone device is expected to feature a curved glass design on the front and back, with minimal metal framing. The phone will likely have a full edge-to-edge display, placing the selfie camera under the screen for the first time.

With such a packed lineup, Apple appears determined to push innovation while appealing to both high-end users and budget-conscious buyers.
