Arsenal also had a first-half goal by Riccardo Calafiori ruled out for offside and a second-half penalty overturned by VAR.
Fulham made Arsenal work hard but failed to register a single shot on target. It was Arsenal’s fifth clean sheet in eight league games this season.
They now lead the table with 19 points, three ahead of City, while Liverpool are four points behind with a game in hand.
Arsenal have now prevented their opponents from having a shot on target in two straight league games. A feat they last achieved during their 2003-04 title-winning season.
“We didn’t start as we expected,” said Bukayo Saka, whose corner led to the winning goal. “But we’ve learned from past seasons. These are the points we weren’t picking up before.”
Arsenal had failed to win on their last two league visits to Craven Cottage, making this victory an important response after the international break.
Referee Anthony Taylor initially awarded Arsenal a penalty when Saka went down under a challenge from Fulham’s Kevin, but VAR ruled the Fulham defender had made contact with the ball.
The decision led to eight minutes of stoppage time, but Arsenal held firm, reports CNA.
“Never easy,” said manager Mikel Arteta. “You need everyone up to speed at a tough place like this. We didn’t win here in the last two seasons, so I’m very happy.”
