Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the gas supply plan and load management strategy for the upcoming winter season. During the meeting, the prime minister directed the relevant authorities to prepare a comprehensive gas load management plan and take proactive measures to ensure a smooth supply during the winter months.
He also instructed officials to prioritise domestic consumers when allocating indigenous gas. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Cheema, Ali Pervaiz Malik and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed the authorities to launch an extensive public awareness campaign on the gas load management strategy and ensure uninterrupted gas imports while keeping the regional situation in view. During the briefing, officials said RLNG would be prioritised for power generation and the industrial sector, while alternative energy sources would be promoted for domestic use to reduce reliance on indigenous gas.
The meeting was informed that uninterrupted gas supplies from reserves in the northern regions of the country would be ensured. The government is also considering a proposal to provide bank financing facilities for water and space-heating solutions.
The briefing further highlighted that the government is working on plans to import LNG for the December-February period. While gas companies and the Petroleum Division have requested at least 22 LNG cargoes, the Energy Task Force is considering 10 to 12 cargoes, taking into account the best available options and challenges along regional energy supply routes.
