Gold price drops by Rs2,700 per tola in local market

Gold prices in Pakistan fell on Friday, tracking a decline in the international market, while the rupee continued to show a mild strengthening trend against the US dollar and other major currencies.

According to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the price of gold per tola dropped by Rs2,700 during the day to settle at Rs494,062.

Similarly, the price of 10-gram gold declined by Rs2,315, bringing it down to Rs423,578.

This comes a day after gold had surged sharply on Thursday, when the per tola rate rose by Rs7,800 to reach Rs496,762, reflecting continued volatility in the bullion market.

In the global market, gold also saw a dip. The international price fell by $27 to $4,717 per ounce, including a $20 premium.

Unlike gold, silver moved in the opposite direction. The price of silver increased by Rs80 per tola, reaching Rs8,525 in the local market.

Rupee posts gains

The Pakistani rupee continued its gradual strengthening against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday.

The local currency appreciated by 0.76 paisa to close at PKR 278.70 against the dollar, compared with the previous day’s closing of PKR 278.71.

During trading, the rupee touched a high of PKR 278.75 and a low of PKR 278.70, showing a narrow but stable range.

On a broader basis, the rupee has gained PKR 5.06 or 1.82 percent against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. In calendar year 2026 so far, it has strengthened by PKR 1.42 or 0.51 percent.
