Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced measures to support potato farmers across the province as a record potato harvest is expected this year.

Speaking on the occasion the chief minister said Punjab is likely to produce 12 million metric tons of potatoes which is 25 percent higher than last year’s output.

She emphasized that the Punjab government is taking concrete steps to ensure farmers receive better prices for their produce.

Maryam Nawaz said that efforts are underway to expand access to new export markets so that surplus production can be exported and farmers do not suffer losses.

She added that an agreement with Kazakhstan marks an important breakthrough in this regard.

The chief minister further said that the provincial government is working to secure access to more international markets in the coming weeks.

She said that the core objective of these initiatives is to export the excess crop and safeguard the financial interests of farmers.

Punjab launches tractor subsidy scheme for farmers

Previously, the government of Punjab to support farmers and boost agriculture productivity started tractor scheme. In the scheme 10,000 tractors ranging from 50 to 75 horsepower are being provided to farmers in the first phase.

And the second phase is underway in which the balloting and distribution of 10,000 tractors with 75 to 85 horsepower will be given.

Subsidies of up to Rs 1 million per tractor has been offered by the government. The third phase will begin in which applications for 50 to 55 horsepower tractors will be invited.  

In free interests’ loans tractors with 100 to 120 horsepower will be given to farmers additionally.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has said that the purpose of the scheme is to increase agriculture output and ensure economic self-reliance and the government is supporting farmers through practical measures rather than hollow slogans.
