Good news for the public: commodity prices fall

Pakistan's inflation

Web Desk: Inflation rate slowed in December, declining 0.4% from the previous month, as easing price pressures brought annual inflation down to 5.6%, according to a monthly report released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics. The latest reading came within the Ministry of Finance’s already projected range of 5.5% to 6.5% for the month.

The December figure marked a notable improvement from November, when annual inflation stood at 6.15%. However, inflation remained higher than the 4.1% rate recorded in December 2024, indicating that price pressures, while moderating, have not fully returned to last year’s levels.

Meanwhile, inflation eased across both urban and rural areas on a monthly basis. The bureau reported a 0.4% decline in prices in cities during December, while inflation in villages fell by as much as 0.6%. On an annual basis, inflation was recorded at 5.8% in urban areas and 5.4% in rural regions, reflecting a broadly similar trend across the country.

In addition, the statistics bureau said average inflation for the July–December 2025 period stood at 5.15%, suggesting a gradual cooling in overall price growth during the first half of the fiscal year.

Separately, the Finance Minister claimed yesterday that inflation is at its lowest in the history of Pakistan and the government is taking all necessary steps to recover economy to its fullest.
