Google has announced an expanded digital skills initiative under which 350,000 Google Career Certificates will be awarded to Pakistani students, helping equip them with industry-relevant skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-demand fields.
As part of the latest phase of the programme, Google has added 150,000 new scholarships, increasing the total number of career certificates available in Pakistan to 350,000.
The online, industry-recognised courses will cover a wide range of disciplines, including AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, project management, digital marketing, and e-commerce, enabling students and professionals to strengthen their digital expertise.
According to Google, the initiative is aimed at improving employment opportunities, supporting freelance careers, and encouraging entrepreneurship among young Pakistanis through practical, job-ready skills.
The company said it has been expanding its investment in Pakistan’s digital education sector since 2022, with the programme now evolving into a broader workforce development initiative.
The project is being implemented in partnership with Tech Valley, the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), and the Higher Education Department to increase access to digital training across the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has directed ministry officials to complete at least two Google Career Certificate courses to promote the adoption of AI and advanced digital technologies across the public sector.
Google certification course
Previously, Google announced that it would provide free certification courses to more than 100,000 students in Pakistan.
According to the details, students will not have to pay the usual course fee. It is normally from $400 to $1,000.
The program offered courses lasting three to six months in fields like cybersecurity, AI, and business intelligence.
Training session on Google Gemini
The announcement was made during an event held at the CM House to promote technology and digital skills among young people.
The event also included a training session on Google’s artificial intelligence model, Gemini, for members of the Sindh cabinet and senior government officials.
Speaking at the event, Murad Ali Shah said technology is changing the way people live and work.
He said that the Sindh government wants to improve digital skills in both government offices and among the public.
